Eight years is a long time. Long enough to prepare for the end of the world.

Plagued by unsettling dreams and memories of events he’s been told never happened, Sean Ryder spent those eight years readying himself and his family for the event.

Four hundred miles to the south, former SEAL Team 8 member Charles “Turk” Turksen knows there is no escaping the Afflicted. So he plans to outlast them.

With the outbreak threatening the United States, Sean receives a call from a ghost. A ghost who can provide his family with a chance at survival.

Both men have made their preparations. They’ve enacted their plans. Will it be enough to survive when the Afflicted come?

Affliction Z Abandoned Hope PostApocalyptic Survival Thriller eBook LT Ryan

LT Ryan does it again with this book. The Affliction Z series has been another wonderful Zombie series that I have experienced over the past 6 months or so of my zombie book reading spree. I have been a walking dead fan for a very long time but until searching out non walking dead zombie books did I realize that there were so many good books out there for fiction in the zombie genre I never had to go without my favorite post apocalyptic setting in my hands to read. Affliction Z is among the top series that I have read, along with the slow burn series by Bobby Adair. I consider Mr. Ryan and Mr. Adair to be on the same level of zombie writing as Robert Kirkman and the world war Z author. Also anything by TW Piperbrook is a fun read in the zombie area as well. You must read the book above. Affliction Z makes you love the characters and hate the zombies and the bad guys, it blurred the lines of good and evil as any good apocalypse novel should. It makes you anticipate the next book with baited breath. Come on Mr. Ryan give me book 4 already damn it! I love this man's books.

Affliction Z Abandoned Hope PostApocalyptic Survival Thriller eBook LT Ryan Reviews

Ah, it seems to be the fate of sequels, many just aren't as good as the first story, and they serve as a bridge to the next tale. No different here, not bad, but not great. Ryan doesn't add anything new to the zombie mythos, they're rarely seen or mentioned in book two. He spends most of the time on characters, which normally I prefer, but in this book I had trouble telling all but the main people apart, and even th he seemed very similar. The characters just seemed a little flat, which made It harder to care what happens to them. Perhaps a sophomore stumble, I did really enjoy the first book, perhaps the third will tell. I just finished it and can remember a few of the major plot lines, involving a camp, and two bunkers, but they just don't stick to you.
I read the first book in "The Post-Apocalyptic Box Set" collection which I think I got as a Prime freebie. It was enough to temp me to buy this book. The story is believable enough to scare the heck out of anyone, for sure. The high pressure endless action is sometimes over the top but the real life set backs are gut grabbing realistic which I like. Unlike some survivalist literature where underground bunkers are iron clad infallible and a .22 caliber is sneered at as a camp fire rat plinker of no real value to real men,.The author is savvy enough to see the value of "whatever happens to be lying around". Not so sure I find it believable that higly trained seals could be talked into believing they imagined combat experiences, however, and certain they are unlikely to be successfully threatened to keep their mouth shut. I point to the Navy seals who killed Bin Laden for proof of my opinion on that.
I read the first book to this series from the 7 book collection "This Is The End [Volume I]." I read through "Affliction patient Z" in a day and even though I still had one of the books from the 7 book volume previously mentioned, I went to and bought Affliction Z Abandoned Hope. I was not disappointed! If you are a "Walking Dead" fan, I believe you will love this book. It is intense and full of action. I had a hard time putting it down to do daily activities impossible to ignore, and every chance I got I I picked it back up finishing it in a day. The only complaint I can come up with with any real merit is that it was too short (a sign I always take as a good read). I can't wait for the next books to come out and I like knowing that there is a planned ending to the series with Book 5 because sometimes series go on and on repeating plots or just losing there thunder.
Pretty darn good.

Eight years after Sean Ryder left Nigeria he gets a call from Turk. A Turk the Govt told him wasn't a Navy SEAL and was a guy no one ever heard of.

Of course this was after they tried to convice Ryder that everything he experienced in Nigeria was hallucination caused by his being in a IED explosion where he lost part of his leg.

Ryder knew they were blowing smoke up his ass but he used all the money he got to build an underground bunker near his home. A bunker he knew he would need to keep his family safe.

Turk advised him it was starting and he had his bunker built in SC and Sean and his family were welcome.

Once things started it happened rapidly.

Ryders wife was on a business trip and had a hard time getting back. She made it home but things sure didn't go as planned.

So begins one damned fine read.

This one has Ryder, his daughter Emma, a family friend named Barb, Marley Barbs dog, Kathy, Turk and his family, his idot brother Marcus, two bunkers, an assortment of people who will enslave the healthy, death, murder and Ryder and Turk trying to save their loved ones and survive.

Just a great read.

Five Stars.
Here we have the Second Book in the Affliction Z Series 1st was Patient Zero (Where you can read my review and others) Which told of the beginnings of the Affliction in Nigeria. It's now many years later. (It's NOT Mandatory that you read Patient Zero, Because Abandoned Hope stands alone - But it does give you the back-story on the two main characters, Sean & Turk.)
Mr. Ryan has written a very "Human" zombie novel.
Many zombie novels I have read focus mostly on the shuffling beings, (there's plenty of hordes of zombies tearing folks limb from limb, here, don't get me wrong) But, Lee writes more about the survivors, which just may be the most dangerous of the two.
The writing, as always, is fast-paced and to the point, in which you get caught up in the characters lives and care about what happens to them!

NOTE For some reason, Lee, this book Does Not show up on Your Author Page.
